Maryland horse trial at Loch Moy

This weekend we competed at the final recognized Maryland Horse Trial. Kate was competing five horses, Jenny competed her horse, and I competed Dobbin at Novice.
Dobbin had a great dressage warm up but was a little deep during his test. We ended up with a 40.9 which was Dobbins best score in his novice test so far. Later that day I had show jumping, I went a little early and had a clean round with no time penalties but I received four penalties for circling. By the time I received a few parting words they were calling thirty seconds till my cross country starts. Dobbin had an amazing round! Jumping fences and combinations that he had never seen before like they were no problem! Dobbin was so happy with eighth place! Such a success

A crazy weekend..

Like any other Friday I hurried home from school, threw some polos and riding pants in a bag and headed off to Kate's for a weekend as a working student. I arrived at Waradaca to help with cross country schooling on such a beautiful day. Then we headed back to the barn for a late night of preparing for Marlborough horse trial. Within four hours we had three of five horses braided, all of them washed, tack cleaned and trailer loaded. By the time we got home we all collapsed and fell asleep.
The next morning at 4 am I was jolted awake by my alarm screaming. I rolled out if bed got ready and we all were out the house before 4:45. We managed to leave before 5:20 and hit the open road. By the time we got to Marlborough it was crunch time. Kate had two horses in the prelim and three horses in the novice. All back to back. Between putting in studs and taking video it was a morning full of craziness and quick tack changes. By the time the show was over we had a Reining champion for the second year in a row, first, and second in the novice. Since it was only 1:00 we raced home hoping we could make the Columbia Classic Grand Prix. We did and spent our time in luxury in the VIP tent critiquing the riding and munching on some delicious salads among other things. After we finished up at the Columbia Classic we cleaned the barn and went out for dinner. It was 7:00 when we got home and we all happily went to sleep.
The next morning we worked until ten and then Kate generously let the other working students and I go watch the bareback puissance at Plantation Horse Trial. The atmosphere was amazing and fun. Caroline, Dom, and the other competitors put on a great show! The other working students and I then hurried back to the barn, stuck in traffic we managed to make it on time to feed the horses.

A Really "Fun Show"

I'm not quite accustomed to waking up at 8 am. It's probably the latest I've woken up since last spring. Especially on a show day. But a lot has changed since last spring.
With Kate and Jenny away at the American Eventing Championship leaving me all here by my lonesome I decided why not take part in a local Merry Acres "Fun Show" to support children with Autism. It had the set up of a horse trial only you could choose you test(s), jumping division and cross country division.
For dressage I chose to compete the same test I did when I went to Millbrook horse trials Beginner Novice test B to see my improvements. I had an impeccable test. Dobbin scored his highest ever with a 36.2 he even had an 8, as did I in my position. I ended up coming in second place and I was beaming.
For the show jumping portion I rode two rounds in 2'6 and 2'9 both were clear rounds. I placed first in both. I owe this to an incredibly stressful pre Culpeper show jumping lesson I had with Kate that really improved my show jumping from before.
After show jumping there was a break so I proceeded to walk my course, which was two miles long. By the time I made it back to start box my division had already started. I trotted up from the trailer, popped over a log, and they sent me on my way. It was about to rain and I made my way over the first few jumps at a steady rate before I began hand galloping . I ended up lapping the girl in front of me. And having a great ride placing fourth.
Congratulations to everyone competing, especially Nahye Kim, Teagan Przyborowski, Taylor Martin, Gaby Esquivel and Katie Oler. Overall it was a great day and I was happy to be there to support kids with Autism and put a smile on their face.

Eventers Do it Right at HITS Show Jumping

At the crack of dawn, I rolled out of bed jumped in the shower and put on my Victory Sport Horses eventing gear. You wouldn't guess it, but we were in for a spectacular day at Culpeper show jumping.
After pulling all the horses from the fields and putting them on the trailer we pulled out of our barn and hit the open road. Or at least I assume we did , I slept the entire time. Only waking up to glance back to see if the other working students were awake too.
Upon arriving, we pulled Gary (our trusty golf cart) out of the trailer. While the others tacked up the horses, Kate and I went to register, and filled out a pile of paper work. Then we went to walk my course. I was in awe by the fact that Kate and I were the only people decked out in white pants. Then we hopped on the horses and claimed a jump ( that's how the jumpers do warm up every person has one jump and you have to fix it to the way you like). I had a wonderful warm up and waited on the side of the arena for my turn. I glanced around and remarked that I was both the only junior and of the only armatures in my division level one. Competing against even Kate ( who I work for) on two horses. Dobbin was a little slow in the course and I had to gallop to all of the fences making quick jumper turns. Screaming the entire way " GO GO GO GO GO GO GO!" and
"good baby!". I could hear the spectators laughing and commenting "that girl reminds me of so and so" and
"that horse is just like..". And when I walked away with a clear round with two time penalties I knew I had brought a little joy to their day. I may not have ribboned but i consider my day a spectacular success and I couldn't be prouder of my little eventer pony!

A Glimpse Into my Life

This is my first blog entry and I plan to use it to chronicle my life as I attempt to finish school and pursue my dreams of becoming a professional rider.
My name is Emily Przyborowski (known as little one around the barn), I am a fourteen year old eventer from Maryland. This summer I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to be professional rider Kate Chadderton's working student. So far the job has enabled me to improve my riding, and meet many people that I would not have otherwise. Kate has been particularly amazing, she has been able to do the one thing many people have not been able to do, believe in my ability to become a professional rider.
Since the time I was very young my mother has been a reputable trainer for many young eventers. Although it sounds amazing, and often is, the job can sometimes be a gruesome and difficult one. I spent many long hours in the barn as a child helping the pleather of people that circulate through it every day. Grooming and tacking up after school in the cold winter night and cooling out and hosing in the excruciatingly hot summer days. My mother has purchased all of my competition horses for me and is a constant supporter of my dreams of becoming a professional. Regarded as "a knowledgeable  and skill full trainer" by Kate she continues to bring many young riders and horses up the lower levels.
Purchased for me two winters ago my Connemara cross event horse Dobbin and I have been working tirelessly with Kate all summer on our dressage and are finally seeing some improvement, I can get him round throughout the entire walk and trot consistently and we are seeing major developments in the canter as of this week. None would even be possible without the daily efforts of Kate. Every morning Dobbin and I gallop through the field that connects my farm to hers. He gets to hangout in the prized "McCuan Mario Stall" (aka the first one in the barn) where he is socialized by the many farriers, vets, trainers, students, potential buyers, and of course Kate's two Australian dogs Digger and Sunny.
After getting a new Australian working student Rhianon late last night, we are leaving this morning for the Waradaca horse trials. Kate is taking two clients horses, and one of her Irish horses to compete all at the lower levels. I'm really happy with the help that the new girl will bring and hopefully the day will go smoothly as planned
I look forward to sharing more of my life with you.
